How to Make an A-line Skirt

Couture has always been known for its dreary drapes and superb skirt patterns. Skirts have always caught the fantasy of fashionistas. Be it the fuschia and fur fabrications or the very scintillating hue harmony, skirts have always managed to lend a penchant with carefree ease. One of the most flattering skirt patterns that makes for a hit every time it makes its way out of the closet, is the A-line skirt pattern.
Here is a simple pattern that you could use in order to stitch your own skirt. All you need to do is to follow the instructions in the article and proceed with the flow.
1.The first step is to fold the stretchable material in such a manner that it forms a half.
2.Make sure that the finished edges of the material are placed together with the wrong side out.
3.Place the skirt that fits you perfectly on top of the stretchable fabric.
4.The placing of the skirt should be such that it facilitates and makes your measurement easier.
5.Place it flat and face up. One side should be closest to the edge and one side placed close to the fold.
6.With the help of sharp scissors, cut around the outline of the skirt, leaving an extra 1/2-1" of material on the sides and an extra 1 to 2" on the top and bottom.
7.What you will receive as the end product would be two pieces. These two pieces will serve to be the front and back of the skirt.
8.If the fabric is not wide enough so as to cut both pieces out together when folded over, there is nothing you should worry about. All you need to do is to just cut the two sides separately. If the fabric you have chosen to make the skirt with, isn't very stretchy, allow some extra edge on the sides to slip the skirt on. If you don't, the skirt would become really tight and you will not be able to breathe!
9.If, however, the skirt becomes too tight and the seams are not left to make the correction in the fittings. You could just take the side seams out and add panels of fabric to create space and increase the width of the a-line skirt.
10.After the cutting and chopping is done, you could fold the pieces from the middle and check if the sides, top and bottom of the skirt are in perfect symmetry or not.
11.Make sure that the flare and the flow that you get should be more or less equivalent on the sides.
12.Place the right sides of the two fabric pieces together and pin one side together all the way down from top to bottom. Stitch one side about 5/8" from the edge on your sewing machine.
13.Back stitch at the top and bottom of each side to hold the seam.
14.Repeat the same with the other side of the two pieces. Put the stitch length on 6 or 8, thereby helping the stitches to get bigger and longer. This will make the material stretch.
15.Iron the two side seams open on the inside. This will make the extra seam material lie flat.
16.Fold over about 1/2" of material from the top, around the skirt to make the waistband and iron it flat on the surface. Then fold 1/2" again on the top, so there's a double thickness.
17.Iron it flat again and pin it together every few inches.
18.Thread the elastic by making a guide into the skirt waistband and pin it up with a big safety pin.
19.Guide the elastic from the outside all the way around the waistband. As you go along, the elastic comes out the other side, pull it as tight as you desire.
20.Pin the elastic together and try on the skirt so the waist feels comfortable.
21.If the elastic is fitting perfectly, you don't need to make any amendments, just go ahead and sew the two ends together securely, either by hand or with the machine.
22.Ensure that the elastic lies flat and doesn't twist.
23.Make the hem in the same manner as you went about making the waistband, the only difference being that you don't have to leave an opening as you did for the waistband. You are free to try your self-made fashion couture!

Long Denim skirt:
Denims, being versatile in nature, when crafted into a sophisticated long skirt can truly boost the way a woman feels, whether at work or with friends. It can be paired with a simple tee on a lazy day or combined with a strappy, layered top for a night out at the disc. A must in every woman's wardrobe, the length can be played up in various ways. A long denim skirt can be fitted to the ankles mixed with a stretch blend for a hot and sultry look. Or it can be fitting at the hips, flowing down, with a slit at the side to reveal a flash of leg! Throw in some great stilettos and you are ready to melt the hearts of many. One can also find it embellished with embroidery or sequins though the classic, blue, long denim skirt has always been the one most favored.
Gypsy Skirt:
If you think it is time to make a splash in many colors and flowing fabrics...the gypsy skirt is designed for you. Reminiscent of the '60s and '70s look, the fashion industry has implemented various ways to transform these gypsy skirts into what we see on the fashion runways today. This boho-chic look can be crinkled and flouncy in three tiers cascading all the way to the feet. Fabrics could range from transparent to layered cotton and can be teamed with short tank tops; peasant tops or embroidered ones for that ethnic touch. Long dangling earrings combined with colorful headgear like bandannas create a cool and casual look for those willing to go a little overboard!
Sarong Skirt:
Also known as a wrap-around and derived from the word 'surong', this sensuous garment is generally worn by women mainly on pristine, white beaches! Easy to wear, this skirt needs only to be wrapped around and comprises a single piece of fabric. Generally found in bright, floral batik prints you can find a staggering range in terms of colors, fabrics and prints. The most popular, however, is the traditional tie-n-dye one. Worn especially, throughout Thailand, Philippines and Indonesia, the sarong has found its way from the beaches to the regular evening attire and has also remained to be an ultimate and casual style statement. A simple white top will aid in bringing out the beauty of this long skirt. Tattoos or body piercing can also heighten the effect.
The long skirt is a timeless creation and it would probably never go out of fashion, just like the classic blue denim jeans. A touch of fur, a tiny slit, some sequins, huge motifs, zany prints - Take your pick and bring out the woman in you!

The denim trousers change greatly

Trends change, and so do our tastes. We start to breathe these new trends, especially when it comes to tastes in fashion and clothes. Of late, narrow and skinny jeans are the buzzwords. I am liking them too, they make me looker leaner! Well, that is not the point, the point is what do I do with a pile of old bell bottom denim trousers. Discard them! come on I spend quite a few dollars in buying them back then. The dilemma is I don't want to get rid of them, nor do I want to wear them.
How To Make Cut Off Shorts
Step #1
You will need a measuring tape. Place the start of the tape on your waist exactly where you wear your denims, and let it fall along the length. While you do so make sure you are standing in front of the mirror, it will make your job easier. Now decide how long you want your shorts to be, just above the knees or a little more short. Whichever the case may be, just measure the length and write it down somewhere before you forget.
Step #2
Pull out an old denim, place them on a flat surface and with the help of the measurement, mark a line on both legs. You can use a ruler to draw a straight line, it will give the shorts a more finished look. Find a pair of sharp scissors, with the help of the same cut both the legs along the marked line in the second step. Leave an extra 2 inches length for folding, in case you want to.
Step #3
Now, turn the denim shorts inside out and lay them on a flat surface. If the length of the newly cut shorts vary, don't worry, take the scissors and snip away the extra fabric, bringing both the sides to the same length. Anyway we are going to fold them later. So, don't worry.
Step #4
One of the most interesting steps. You will need a razor. Run the razor on your denim to create a distressed look. You will notice loose threads exposed from the jeans giving you some seriously distressed perfection. Recommended areas for a distressed look are front pocket edges and back pockets.
Step #5
Finally, fold the ends of the shorts and hem them for a more classy look. You can choose not to hem them, giving it more frayed and rugged edges. And there you are with your brand new pair of denim shorts. Make sure you wash it before wearing, as it will fray the hem a little more and make them look simply stunning!

Forever fashionable little black dress

The little black dress is one of the most stylish, feminine ensembles any woman can own!
Dresses in general, are creations that make a woman look and feel feminine. Dresses have been on the fashion scenario for ages, although, fashion may have changed with time. The little black dress has been one of the most favorites of all outfits, for women, as well as designers. It can make you look sweet and innocent or can even turn you into an attractive, sexy woman! The choice is yours. So, what is this fascination, women have with the little black dress? Well, I certainly fall into that category of ladies who can shop for this dress anytime, anywhere!
The little black dress or the LBD as it is popularly known as, was popularized mainly by the very talented designer, Coco Chanel. This gorgeous and extremely talented lady was known for her exceptional skills in the fashion industry. Coco Chanel slowly worked her way up the ladder and brought about a revolution in terms of clothing for women. Fashion during the 1900s was not about women's comfort. She recreated the image of the woman in the 20th century and added a stamp of her own style for such a woman. A Coco Chanel outfit thus liberated women and enhanced their personality with immense comfort. Women were freed from the uncomfortable clothing worn in that Era. Well, this is also the time when the little black dress became a rage with women. This very versatile design embodied the woman's femininity and could be worn either in the daytime or even at night. Coco Chanel's creation was then featured in the 1926 edition of the very glamorous magazine, Vogue. The dress that was featured here was simple and short.
In the olden days, black was only reserved for mourning; therefore, what Coco Chanel visualized was a revolutionary step of sorts. She broke free from the traditional norms and women accepted her fashion ideas with great enthusiasm. She left an indelible mark in the world of fashion as her creation of the LBD continues to rule as evening wear.
